BIRDWATCHING
in North-West Poland
Just two hours north of Berlin there is an impressive list of very
easy
to watch Central - European birds, which will be a delight to
bird-watchers,
especially to those, taking their first bird-watching journey to the
eastern
part of the continent. Here you will find Black Redstart, Icterine
Warbler,
Golden Oriole, Red backed Shrike, Hawfinch, Crested Tit, both
Nightingale
and Thrush Nightingale, Hooded Crow, of course, Serin, Crested Lark and
even Red Kite, Hobby, Marsh Warbler, Penduline Tit and White spotted
Bluethroat,
all within the cities boundary. Half an hour by car away from Szczecin
the breeding cranes are the most attraction. About ten pairs nest here,
but after the breeding season flocks builds up of 300 birds and during
autumn migration up of 10.000. Lesser spotted Eagle is a breeding
specialty.
But the bird of prey which most people want to see here is the White
tailed
Eagle which breeds near by. They are common in this part of Poland and
you are likely to catch sight of one.
